Love Library

New to campus or need a refresher after summer break? We can help!

Need help finding your way in the library or on campus? Not sure how to find that book, or article you need? Need help activating your SDSUid?

The reference librarians are here to help you out. You can reach us in a number of ways.  On campus?  Stop by the Research Services Desk on the first floor of the Library Addition.

If you want some extra attention, make a one on one library orientation with a subject specialist in your academic area.  Can’t make it into the library? Call the Reserach Services Desk at (619) 594-6728, or e mail the desk at eref@mail.sdsu.edu.  Just need a quick answer, we even have a text service.  Text your questions to (619) 567-9743.  Need some help after hours? Don’t forget you have 24/7 access to librarians through instant message chat.

Remember, we can’t help if you don’t ask and we love to help!

Here is a list of Library FAQ's

  • How do I log onto library computers?
    • Use your SDSUid to log onto library computers. That's your new email address, not your RedID number.
    • Activate your SDSUid using your WebPortal information.
  • How do I print?
    • First, use your SDSUid to get on the library computers.
    • Next, send your job to the printer.
    • Go to a public print station in the Library Computing Hub, the 24/7 Study Area, or Research Services.
    • Select your SDSUid from the ones listed on the printer's screen.
    • Select the jobs you wish to print, and click "print these jobs."
    • Swipe your SDSUCard or Guest Copy Card.
    • Click the "pay and print" button.
      • Take your printouts from the printer.
  • Can I print wirelessly?
    • Yes, email your document as an attachment to sdsu-library@printspots.com, and pick it up from any library print station using the steps above.
    • Make sure you choose to print the job that has your actual document and not just your name.
    • You can not print to the color printer wirelessly.
  • How do I add money to my Red ID?
    • You can only add dollar bills to your Red ID in the library.
    • Use card machines located in Research Services, 24/7, the Hub or elsewhere in the library.
    • If you need to add money to your card with credit or change, go to the Aztec Market or SDSU bookstore.
    • You can also add money with a credit card online. Go to: https://get.cbord.com/sdsu/full/login.php
    • Problems? Call the SDSU Card office directly for problems or monies lost at (619) 594-6800 or (619) 594-3450 as the library is not responsible for monies lost or problems with the cards or machines.
  • Does the library own my textbook?
    • Unfortunately, most academic libraries (SDSU included), do not purchase required textbooks as these items tend to be highly specialized and become outdated quickly.  If the library does have a copy it is likely to be an older edition. However, there are a number of things you can do to try and find your textbook.
      1. Many 100 level and 200 level textbooks will be available on reserve for checkout for 2 hours. They can be found by clicking the Course Reserves button in OneSearch, and looking under the faculty member’s name, course name/number, author, or title.
      2. If you text is not listed, then you can check the library's holdings in OneSearch, and search by title or author.
    •  Here is a link to more information on finding your textbook.
  • I’ve never been to the library before, I’m lost!
    • The library can be a little confusing at first, here are some Library Floors & Locations to help get you oriented.  Use these maps to find out where there are printers, copiers, food friendly and quiet study areas to make your time in the library easier!
  • I need some place to study in a group, where can I go?
    • If you want a place to study in a group, you can reserve the study rooms in 24/7 up to one week in advance by going to the 24/7 help desk.
    • There are a number of other study rooms available on a first come first serve basis to groups of three or more students throughout Love Library. For a list of rooms and more information on study rooms, visit the Open Study Rooms/Spaces.
  • I really need a quiet place for study! Where should I go?
  • Where are the 4th Floor classrooms?
    • These classrooms are located on the 4th floor of Love Library, the older portion of the building. You can get to Love Library by entering through the Library Computing Hub and then take the stairs or elevators to the 4th floor.
    • Alternatively, if you enter the dome area you can take the zig zag Donor Hallway on the first floor located directly across from the stairs and next to the circulation desk. Following this hallway will take you to the stairs and elevators.
    • Here is a map of the 4th floor.
  • I need help with a research question or project.
    • The reference librarians are here to help you with your research projects. You can reach us in a number of ways. Just need a quick answer, we even have a text service! Text your questions to (619) 567-9743.  Need some help after hours? Don’t forget you have 24/7 access to librarians through instant message chat.
    • On campus and need help with a more extensive research question? Stop by the Research Services Desk on the first floor of the Library Addition, under the dome.  If you want some extra attention, schedule a one on one library orientation with a subject specialist  in your academic area.  Can’t make it into the library? Call the reference desk at (619) 594-6728, or e mail the desk at eref@mail.sdsu.edu
  • I need help with my library record, or library fine.
    • Head on over to the circulation desk, the large desk located on the 1st floor of the Library Addition, directly in front of you as you come down the stairs or elevator under the dome.  You can also give the circulation desk a call at 619-594-6793.
